Rowing successes at Coalporters on the River Itchen

Coalporters Small Boats and Junior Regatta, on the River Itchen, attracted crews from the Island. Ryde’s ‘A’ sculler Isaac Gibson finished first in his heat and second place in the semi-final to the eventual winner.

The Ryde “B” sculler, Charlie Watts also won his heat and in his semi-final finishing second in the final.

Ryde’s Joe Bird and Max Locke competing in the Boys J16 double scull event over a straight 800m course finishing third in their semi-final. Both competed in the Boys J16 Single sculls event, with Max finishing second in his semi-final and fourth in the final, Joe Bird won his semi-final and won the final convincingly.

Island crews will now start preparations for the South Coast Rowing Championships in Plymouth on September 6 with Ryde having two fours’ crews; an Open Junior Senior Four and a Women’s Coastal Junior Four representing their association, the Hants & Dorset ARA, in the Championship events.
