A Sandown nursery has been recognised for its high standards of care, learning and inclusion following an Ofsted inspection.
Inspectors awarded Berry Hill Childcare, based at Broadlea Primary School in Newport Road, a “strong standard” rating across all areas.
The inspection found children thrive in a welcoming and inclusive environment where they feel safe, secure and valued. Inspectors praised staff for building warm and caring relationships with children and their families, helping youngsters develop confidence, independence and a love of learning.
The report highlighted the setting’s well-planned curriculum, with staff using children’s interests and existing knowledge to create engaging activities that encourage problem-solving and communication skills. Inspectors noted that children are eager to learn, make sustained progress from their starting points and are well prepared for their transition to school.
Particular praise was given to the nursery’s approach to inclusion. Leaders and staff were praised for identifying children who may need additional support and
responding quickly with targeted interventions. Children with special educational needs and disabilities were fully included in all aspects of nursery life.
Inspectors also recognised the contribution of the leadership team, describing them as dynamic and passionate, with a strong commitment to improving outcomes for children and families. Parents told inspectors staff regularly go “the extra mile” to help meet individual family needs.
The report found children enjoy a wide range of learning opportunities both indoors and outdoors, with staff skilfully extending their learning through play and encouraging them to develop resilience, independence and confidence.
