The Island’s top marksman, Richard Wilson, has proved he is still at the top of his game, earning another England cap at the British Smallbore Rifle Championship in Bisley, Surrey.

Competing as a veteran, the Shanklin Rifle Club member shot consistently over a gruelling seven days in extremely hot conditions. His steady performance kept him near the top of the field throughout the week, and a strong finish placed him in the top ten of Great Britain’s elite X Class category, securing his England selection.

Alongside his individual success, Richard also represented Hampshire in two team events, helping secure both a first and second-place finish.

The week concluded with the prestigious Roberts match, in which only the top 20 shooters qualify. Competitors face 40 shots at 50 metres and 40 shots at 100 yards in a tense finale. Against an elite field, Richard fought hard for every point and secured 14th place overall. Reflecting on his achievements, he said: “I’m really happy to represent England and Hampshire at this year’s championship.”
