The Apollo Theatre invites audiences to enjoy a screening of Golden Boy, streamed from the National Theatre, on November 5 at 7pm.
Josh O’Connor leads the cast in this revival of Clifford Odets’ 1937 American play, which explores the tension between art and materialism through the life of Joe Bonaparte, a young Italian-American, torn between his talent as a violinist and his pursuit of fame and fortune as a prizefighter.
Initially supported by his father in pursuing music, Joe instead chooses boxing, setting off events that change his relationships and personality. The story explores identity, ambition, and alienation, as Joe sacrifices his artistic passion for the brutality of the ring.
The theatre will also host three live performances of Musical Magic: Stage and Screen on November 6 and 7, with evening performances at 7.30pm, and a matinee at 2.30pm on November 7.
The show features nostalgic favourites, modern classics, and toe-tapping numbers from Grease, Chicago, The Greatest Showman, The Lion King, 42nd Street and The Sound of Music.
All numbers are fully staged and costumed, combining dance, dialogue and colourful performances. In response to audience requests, there will also be opportunities to sing along.
A company of 20 talented performers promises an evening of melody, laughter, emotion, and variety.
Tickets for both productions are available from apollo-theatre.org.uk.
