The newly formed Cowes Film Club (CFC) is based at Trinity Theatre in Cowes.
The club has been formed following a test event when almost 50 people braved foul weather to rather aptly watch the all-time classic, ‘Singin’ in the Rain’.
Diana Deacon, the founder and driving force behind the new club said: “We thank everyone for their support of the test-event, and for their enthusiasm for the concept of CFC. We intend it to become a great showcase for the best in cinematic art and an important part of the Cowes community.
The first film to be shown next Wednesday evening (March 13) is ‘One Life’, a British drama based on the true story of Sir Nicholas Winton and his efforts to help Jewish children in German-occupied Czechoslovakia to flee to Britain just before the beginning of World War II. The film stars Anthony Hopkins as Sir Nicholas, with Johnny Flynn, Jonathan Pryce, and Helena Bonham Carter in supporting roles.
The door and bar open at 7pm and screening starts at 7.30pm.
Membership for 2024 is £28 for seven films. Non-members can purchase tickets for £8 a film.
Lou Yarrow, another founding member of CFC, said : “A big thank you if you have already become a paid-up member. If not please come along on Wednesday to see One Life.”
Future films already planned include Wonka on May 16 and The Great Escaper on June 20.
At the same time as supporting the Cowes Film Club, Members will also be supporting Trinity Theatre’s roof appeal through hire fees paid by the club and bar takings.
