Newport CC celebrate double success

Ventnor’s Archie Lucy took 6 wickets at Steephill and Ethan Short struck a ton, promotion-seeking Shanklin topped the table, dominant Newport won Island Divisions One and Two, and Northwood’s Martyn Richards scored 102.

Southern Premier and Hampshire Leagues
Second-placed Ventnor won by 5 wickets at home to Fair Oak, in Southern Premier One. With the visitors batting first, Archie Lucy bowled immaculately to return figures 6-24 to limit Fair Oak to 195-9 off their 50 overs. In reply, opener Dineth Thimodya hit 4 sixes and 12 fours in an innings of 98, with Hugh Calloway’s unbeaten 25 seeing the Island side reach 198-5 in the 30th over and claim the points.

Shanklin & Godshill are at the top of Hampshire Division Three B after winning by 7 wickets at home to Solent Rangers. Solent were bowled out for 102 in the 30th over, including 3 wickets apiece for skipper, Ben White, Matt Lambourne and Harry Moore. White’s 20 not out and Harry Collier’s unbeaten 48 saw the Islanders reach 103-3 in the 23rd over and take 22 points to move to the top of the table with 2 games left.

Ventnor II lost by 7 wickets at Lymington after being bowled out for 231, despite a boundary-strewn 100 from Ethan Short. In reply, Lymington’s batting proved too strong and they reached their target for 3 wickets in the 40th over.
