Sandown Carnival, in existence since 1889, has launched its latest carnival season. Seven girls and boys have been chosen as the town’s 2024 Carnival Royalty, and up to £300 is on offer to help people put together an entry in this summer’s parades.
“We’re proud to be one of the Island’s oldest carnivals, and can’t wait to get our new season under way in July. We’re always keen to help anyone with a good idea for their parade entry, and there’s still time to apply to the fund we make available each year,” said Sandown Carnival chairman, Paul Coueslant.
Would-be entrants need to take part in two of the town’s 2024 parades, and must apply by 4pm on Monday (May 27). Anyone can put in an application, with priority given to those in the PO36 postcode area. Application packs can be downloaded at iw.observer/carnivalparticipation or picked up from Sandown Carnival’s shop at 77a in the High Street.
Sandown Children’s Carnival and Main Carnival both take place on Saturday, July 27, with Sandown Illuminated Carnival on Wednesday, August 28. The Carnival also organises Sandown Bay Regatta over the weekend of August 10 & 11. Details of all Sandown Carnival’s 2024 events can be found at iw.observer/sandowncarnival.
