A Wootton care home has been told it requires improvement following a recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), which uncovered five regulatory breaches, and led to three formal warning notices.
Kite Hill Care Home, operated by Colville Care Limited, provides residential accommodation for up to 30 residents, across three floors. On 13 August 2026, the watchdog served warning notices regarding failures related to consent, safe care and treatment, and good governance, following unannounced visits in early July.
Inspectors identified breaches concerning consent, safe care, governance, staffing, and a failure to tell the regulator about notifiable incidents. Mental capacity assessments and best-interest decisions were missing for some residents lacking capacity. Safety risks tied to diagnosed medical conditions were poorly managed, and medicines management was compromised – including instances of missed doses and expired medication being administered. Governance checks also failed to spot these shortcomings.
Despite the failings, the home was praised for high standards of hygiene. It was found to be very clean, well-maintained, and free from malodours, with staff correctly utilising infection control measures and personal protective equipment.
Feedback from the 29 residents and their families was mixed. Many praised the staff’s warm and respectful manner, with one resident remarking, “I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else; the carers are very caring and friendly.” Residents also reported having genuine choice over daily routines and meals.
However, other relatives raised concerns about care consistency, highlighting delays in call bell responses and toilet assistance. One relative described the level of support as “a lottery,” while some bedroom-bound residents reported feeling isolated due to limited social interaction.
The CQC has requested a full action plan from Colville Care Limited to address concerns around safe staffing and statutory notifications.
