Finding Joy and art on Cowes High Street

Gail, Jacque, Brian and Anna at the Courtyard Gallery

As Cowes Week began, the Island’s High Sheriff, Jacque Gifford, was among the invited guests who viewed the works of three local artists, Gail Willows, Anna Wyeth and Brian Marriott.

Held at The Courtyard Gallery, in Cowes’ High Street, the works of the artists both contrast and complement each other. Although a nautical theme runs through the exhibition each artist brings a different view, with different mediums used.

Gail’s artwork is inspired by the Island’s sea and air, while Brian’s glass works add a new dimension. His colourful glass pieces depict such topics as the America’s Cup and yacht club burgees.

Anna’s seascapes and other works are also on display and available from new shop, Finding Joy, on the High Street, where it meets Bath Road.

Owner, Christopher Hooker, lost his wife, Joy, to breast cancer and it was her wish, supported by Christopher, that everyone is made more aware of the symptoms of this condition. Christopher explained that Finding Joy is not a charity shop, but he plans to donate to a cancer charity when a suitable one that fulfils his wishes is found.

There are some unusual pieces, including china and glass, soft furnishings and much more.
