Families across the Island can enjoy hands-on history and creative fun this half term, with activities running at two of the council’s museums for just £1 per person.
Organised by the Isle of Wight Council’s Heritage Service, the sessions aim to spark curiosity and offer something different for both children and adults.
Although Dinosaur Isle in Sandown is currently closed for essential maintenance, the museum is taking its exhibits on the road. A special Dinosaur Isle on the Road event will take place at the Museum of Island History in Newport on Tuesday, October 28, and Thursday, October 30, from 10am to 2pm. Visitors can learn about the Island’s prehistoric creatures, handle real fossils and build their own dinosaur diorama. A pop-up shop will also offer themed gifts and souvenirs.
At Newport Roman Villa, families can enjoy Clay Days on Wednesday, October 22, and Wednesday, October 29, from 10am to 2pm. Inspired by Roman household shrines and offerings to the gods, visitors can explore the villa’s ancient remains and sculpt their own clay shrine or offering to take home. A picture trail of Roman gods and goddesses will guide visitors around the site.
Dr Rachel Tait, museum curator for the council’s Heritage Service, said: “Whether you’re fascinated by dinosaurs or intrigued by Roman life, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.”
No booking is required, and all activities are included in the £1 entry fee.
