Dance event at Riverside raises air ambulance funds

By Press Release May 5, 2023

A charity performance, by the ‘Own it! Dance Divas’ dancers, raised more than £600 for the Hants & IW Air Ambulance at the Riverside, Newport, on Saturday.

The group is run by Jade Lawrence, and put on a series of new choreographed routines performed by around 70 dancers. Jade said: “There were group performances of dancing as well, and duets and soloists including baroque-style dancing.

“We were thankful for Quivers’ drag act, for hosting the event. He kept all of the crowd entertained and supported the dancers who were nervous backstage before their performance.

“We have around 100 ladies in the four weekly classes on the Island and it brings them together to build their confidence up and just be themselves. We also welcome the LGBTQ community.

“We’d also like to thank Equalizer Productions who do our sound and lighting and Michelle Jackson Photography for all their help and support.”

The group meets four times a week, three times in Camp Hill Community Centre, Newport, on Monday – 12.30-1.30pm, Tuesday – 7-8pm and Thursday – 7-8pm, as well as in Wootton on Wednesdays, 7-8pm.
