Carisbrooke CE Primary School has been named top fund-raiser for Mountbatten’s 2025 Schools Walk the Wight after raising £3,435.90.
The announcement was made during a special school assembly, and was met with cheers from pupils and staff.
Each year, the Schools Walk encourages children to cover the equivalent of 22 miles through activities such as walking, scooting, swimming, or skipping. For every 30 minutes of movement, one mile is recorded. Children then complete a final four-mile route from Freshwater Bay to Alum Bay on Walk the Wight day in May.
Around 80 pupils from Carisbrooke took part in this year’s challenge. The funds raised will help Mountbatten’s teams continue to provide round-the-clock hospice care across the Island, at the hospice and John Cheverton Centre, in Newport, and in people’s homes.
This year marked the 35th anniversary of Walk the Wight, which has already raised £515,000 in 2025, with donations still coming in.
Head of school, Kirsty Wallace, said: “We are incredibly proud of our children and families for their compassion and commitment to the community.”
Ashleigh Gibbs, event organiser, added: “What an incredible effort. The money raised helps fund our expert nurses and doctors to care for those who are dying across the Island.”
