Angel Radio IW celebrates its 25th birthday on air this year, and 17 years full time broadcasting on FM.

Established in 1999, Angel Radio became the Island’s first community radio station. They broadcast for the first eight years on restricted service licences, which allowed them two 28-day slots per year.

Angel Radio then began broadcasting full time on the Wight Fibre network (then called Wight Cable) in 2001. After a long struggle, they were finally granted a full FM licence and on March 24, 2007 went on air on 91.50 FM, 24 hours a day, for the last 17 years. The station is still run and staffed entirely by volunteers.

Angel Radio broadcasts all the old comedy programmes, including Hancock’s Half Hour, The Goons, Around the Horn, Life with the Lyons and lots more. There are adventures too: Journey into Space on Sunday mornings, The Lone Ranger, Gene Autrey, Hopalong Cassidy to name but a few. And, of course, they play music from 1900 to 1969. If you love old- time radio without adverts, tune to 91.50 FM.

The original Angel Community Radio broadcasts across the Island, and around the world, as the Island’s only retro and much-loved radio station.
