A primary school wants to take a green energy step forward by installing solar panels.
In new plans, Queensgate Foundation Primary School, on Beatrice Avenue in East Cowes, could see 235 solar panels installed on its roof.
The plans have come on behalf of the school, from Solar for Schools.
The panels could have a generating capacity of 105 kilowatt peak (kWp) and be coated in antiglare.
In planning documents submitted to the Isle of Wight Council, Solar for Schools says the proposed installation could “only enhance the school building and appeal of being a modern learning centre, looking towards the future and creating a vision of sustainability for students.”
The panels could also help Queensgate in its ambition to maximise the potential of on-site zero-carbon electricity generation as part of its wider decarbonisation strategy, the company says.

The primary school, based on the site of the former Osborne Middle School, has in recent years been rebuilt.
