Hush Silent Disco company in Ryde recently took their flashing silent headphones along to the Merrydale Residential Home in Spencer Road, along with some tunes from crooners of yesteryear.
This was the second time that the Merrydale residents got into the groove, as they sang and danced to music taking them back to their younger days, including songs from The Beatles, Frank Sinatra and The Foundations.
As well as being a lot of fun it has been shown that the power of music, especially singing can unlock memories and kickstart the grey matter. It is being used more and more in dementia care as it seems to reach parts of the damaged brain in ways that other forms of communication cannot.
