On Good Friday, a large congregation listened to the rendition of ‘Olivet to Calvary’, a cantata composed by J H Maunder, with a choir of almost 50 singers at St John’s Church, in Newport.
St John’s Church choir was augmented by other choirs in the parish, choristers from various churches on the Island, and guest singers. Jo Dover, director of music at St John’s, conducted, and Martin Dover accompanied on the organ. Tenor soloist was Joel Fernandez, choral scholar at Portsmouth Cathedral, and baritone soloist was Islander, Aaron Briggs.
