Rain showers didn’t deter more than 600 people attending a ‘Celebration of Village Life’ at Mottistone Gardens on Saturday, which coincided with the end of National Village Hall Week.

The free community event also marked 25 years of service to the National Trust by Ted Sandle, who was presented with a certificate by the Island’s Lord-Lieutenant Susie Sheldon, who also opened the celebrations.

The entertainment featured children’s activities, guided garden tours, stalls and demonstrations.

There was also music in the marquee tearooms including the Chillerton Clarinet Players, Porchfield Drummers, Bay Wailers and Chasing Scarlett.

The event was organised by Community Action Isle of Wight with stalls and there were boards and stalls in the barn from Whitwell, Arreton, Rookley, Brook, Yarmouth and six other halls across the Island.

A total of 31 voluntary, community and social enterprise groups took part during the afternoon.
