New Isle of Wight milk is launched

A new brand of Isle of Wight milk is being launched on Monday to initially be sold in three Co-operative Food stores, at (Mill Hill in Cowes, Afton Road in Freshwater and Regent Street in Shanklin, with plans for more outlets if there is enough support.

The idea came from Paul Griffin of Briddlesford Lodge Farm, who said: “As a dairy farmer, we were looking at decimation on the Isle of Wight. There wasn’t going to be a dairy industry.”

Of the millions of litres of milk being produced each year, Paul estimates that about 80 per cent goes off the Island for processing. But with a new plant to process milk from his own Guernsey herd installed on his farm he now has capacity to process milk from other farms.

He has linked up with Read’s Farm in Carisbrooke to produce the new product.
