A one-year-old girl from Newport has died in hospital after suffering an alleged assault by adults at the same address.
Emergency services were called to a property on Dairy Crest Drive in Newport on Friday morning.
The child was initially taken to St Mary’s Hospital in a critical condition before being transferred by air ambulance to Southampton General Hospital where she passed away on Sunday afternoon.
A man aged 31 and a woman aged 27 – both residents of Dairy Crest Drive were arrested on Friday night on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. Police have since confirmed that both were released on conditional bail until 1st November.
Detectives say the investigation remains active and have appealed to the public not to speculate while enquiries continue. Anyone with information that may assist is urged to contact police on 101 or online, quoting reference 44250344990.
