By Isle of Wight ObserverIsle of Wight Women campaigning for compensation for the loss of their state pensions will hold a rally in Newport on Saturday (November 10).
The IW Women Against State Pension Injustice (IW WASPI) say large numbers of women around the country are struggling or are living a hand to mouth existence following the government’s acceleration of the State Pension Age by the 1995 and 2011 Acts for women born in the 1950s.
Around 11,000 women could have been affected on the Island and 3.6 million nationally.
Over a hundred WASPI groups exist around the country with women on the Island being previously represented by the Solent WASPI covering Hampshire and the south coast area.
IW WASPIs now have their own dedicated support group on the Island and are holding their second rally in St James’ Square, Newport after their first one back in July.
The group hope to meet and speak to as many people as possible whose lives have been impacted.
Isle of Wight MP Bob Seely’s office has requested an official invitation to attend the event which they have now received and are considering.
