Horse struck by lightning at Island Riding Centre

Diners from a wedding party watched in horror as lightning struck and killed a popular horse at the Island Riding Centre, just outside Newport, on Sunday.

The one-in-a-million strike killed GG, with riding centre owner, Louise Buckner, saying: “GG was a horse who had seven happy years with us.

“Diners from a wedding party were sitting outside under cover, watching the storm, when a bolt of lightning struck poor GG.

“One of the party was a fire-fighter, who went to check the horse, with staff, to see that GG had passed away. It was a one-in-a-million strike, and we have been overwhelmed with sympathy from everyone. GG will be terribly missed.”
