Nearly 600 classic cars were on display over a stormy couple of days at the 23rd IW Classic Motor Show in Newport and Ryde over the weekend. The Classic Car show was founded by the late Vic Gallucci who died last year. After he passed away last May, Paddy McHugh, who also runs the Newport Carnival, took over running the popular event.
The show opened in Newport on Saturday before moving across to Ryde on Sunday. The Medina Marching Band started the proceedings with a march up through Newport Quay. There was more music throughout the day, provided by Island Ales on The Retro Staycation Airstream Stage. Unfortunately, the day’s entertainment was cut short after rain moved in around 2.30pm, despite the great atmosphere.
On Sunday, it was the turn of the Vectis Corp of Drums to kick off the event in Ryde and even though a storm hit the town at 10am, the rain didn’t stop them marching up to the canoe lake and back.

The exhibitors again came out in force and put up with the downpours; more than 500 turned up and stayed until 4pm.
Paddy said afterwards: “I’m so very proud of what we achieved and a small team on both days were amazing. To put on and bring this show to Newport and Ryde is a huge honour. I have massive shoes to fill.
“I’m passionate about Island events and love to make sure we keep what we have. To everyone who has showed support thank you, and a special thank you to Wightlink for its sponsorship.”
