A weather-affected weekend saw a 6-wicket haul for Newport 2nd XI’s Anthony Rajan, and 5 wickets for Newport 1st XI’s Louis Payne without conceding a run. There was a century for Ventnor’s Brett Hassett, and senior side wins, for Ventnor’s 1st and 2nd XIs, and Shanklin & Godshill.

Southern Premier & Hants

Ventnor won by 7 wickets at home to Calmore Sports, in Premier Division One, with Charlie Calloway taking 4-35, and Dan Cox 3-27, to limit the visitors to 147 all out in the 49th over. Opener, Dineth Thimodya, scored a spectacular 97 not out as the Islanders reached their target for the loss of 3 wickets in the 36th over.

In Hampshire Division Three, leaders, Ventnor 2nd XI won by 46 runs away at Gosport Borough. Batting first, the Islanders’ 85-run opening partnership of Ben Attrill (57) and Mark Fletcher (30) laid the foundations to score 201 all out from 45 overs. In reply, 3 wickets apiece for Archie Lucy and Kayton Evans limited Gosport to 155 all out in the 37th over.

Third-placed Shanklin & Godshill won by 2 wickets away at Waterlooville, with Waterlooville scoring 145-9 off 45 overs. Tom Quaife took 4 wickets for Shanklin. With weather revising the target to 122, the Islanders saw opener, Matt Lambourne, score 26 and middle-order, Harry Moore (20), and skipper, Ben White (19), helped Shanklin reach the target for the loss of 8 wickets with 3 balls to spare.

In Division Four, Ryde 2nd XI won by 4 wickets away at home to Fareham & Crofton, with the visitors scoring 201 all out, with Liam Ringer taking 4-35. Ryde saw Kensei Parker score 50 to reach 202-6 with 5 balls left.

Ryde 1st XI’s match away at Basingstoke & North Hants was abandoned due to rain.

Island Leagues

In Division One, Ventnor 3rd XI won by 5 wickets away at Freshwater, with Freshwater scoring 207-6 off 40 overs. This included 53 from Graham Gosden, with Dan Dale and Steve Holbrook both hitting 32, and a wicket each for Brett Hassett, Rafe Hawkins, Jess Glover, James Curtis, Charles Andrew and a Nick Dobson run-out. An innings of 103 not out from a determined Hassett helped Ventnor score 210-5 in the 35th over to secure victory.

Newport won by 10 wickets away at Shanklin & Godshill 2nd XI, with Newport’s Louis Payne taking 5-0 off 3 overs to bowl Shanklin out for 40, and Newport knocking off the runs without loss.

Northwood won by 8 wickets at home to St Helens who scored 141 all out, with 3 wickets for Kevin Cooper. In reply, opener Gary Cooper scored an unbeaten 93 to lead Northwood to victory in the 19th over for the loss of 2 wickets.

In Division Two, Newport 2nd XI won by 31 runs at home to Northwood 2nd XI in front of a wedding party celebrating their ‘match of the day’. Newport opener, Manuel Kannampuzha, top scored with 41, with fellow opener, James Haydon, hitting 23. Steve Lewis and Neil Redmond took 3 wickets apiece as ‘Port reached 113 all out. In reply, Northwood opener, Jeff Barrett, scored 26 out of a total of 82 all out in the 29th over, with Anthony Rajan taking 6-13 to secure Newport the points.

Fixtures

Tomorrow (Saturday), Ventnor travel to Rowledge, Ryde welcome Odiham & Greywell, and Shanklin & Godshill are at home to Gosport Borough. Ventnor 2nd XI host Sway, with Ryde 2nd XI away at Folland.

In the Island leagues, Newport are home to Ventnor 3rd XI, Northwood entertain Freshwater, and St Helens host Shanklin & Godshill 2nd XI in Division One. In Division Two, Shanklin & Godshill 3rd XI are home to Northwood 2nd XI.
