Lucy, Chris and clients of the Way Forward Programme, are asking Islanders not to be late for a very important date!
Everybody is invited join them at a fundraising event later this month. The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party will be held at Café 62 on Newport High Street on Thursday, September 25, from 1pm to 3pm, and aims to raise £1,000 to support a February Valentine’s Ball. It will be a very special event for Way Forward clients, all adults with learning difficulties who benefit from inclusive social opportunities.
Tea party guests can expect a charming afternoon of tea, sandwiches, scones, and cakes, accompanied by cheerful Way Forward clients, with many dressed in Wonderland-inspired costumes. Chris, who loves his Mad Hatter costume, will be stationed outside welcoming guests and hoping to convince passers-by to support the cause.
“This was my idea with Claire,” said Lucy, who makes a very pretty Alice. “We just want people to come in, enjoy the tea, and help us make our Valentine’s Ball happen.” The team are looking forward to meeting supporters and every cup of tea poured brings the team a little closer to their goal.
Way Forward is part of the charity Osel Enterprises, which has supported people with learning disabilities, autism, and mental health conditions since 1988. The programme offers day, evening, and weekend support, including a vibrant Day Centre in Newport, community outreach, and more recently respite care in a dedicated bungalow in Cowes.
Local businesses are also encouraged to get involved with helping with the February Ball – whether by sponsoring the event or donating goods or services.
