Wight Tri finish season with Yaverland duathlon

Wight Tri’s final summer event, at Yaverland, was switched from an aquabike to a duathlon at the last minute, following a sewage issue.

Instead of the planned swim, competitors faced a 2.5km (1 1/2 mile) run along the promenade, a 10km (6 1/5 mile) bike leg and a final 2.5km (1 1/2 mile) run to the finish.

Workmates, Kev Downer and Arielle Elton-Waters, were close throughout, but Kev edged ahead on the final leg to take the win. The fastest times of the evening went to Craig Wilson, who finished in 40m 11s, and Lucy Doorly in 50m 45s.

Roy Young claimed success in the nominated time challenge, finishing within 46 seconds of his prediction. Team Hersey-Till added an extra element to their race, dropping baby mascot Robin before starting their run.

The summer series has now concluded, with the winter duathlon calendar set to follow.
