It was a true “Funday” on Sunday, December 7, for Cllr Ian Dore, as the chairman’s office was turned into a festive gallery thanks to a bumper bag of Christmas card submissions.
The response to this year’s competition left him stunned, with colourful creations covering every available surface and even spilling onto the floor and chairs. Choosing a winner proved difficult, but after three hours of deliberation, and some enthusiastic help from one of his daughters and her elves, the shortlist was reduced to ten. The top spot went to Ella, of Wroxall Primary School. Her design featured a cheerful cat alongside thoughtful details, including the animal’s reflection in a bauble, a family portrait on the wall, and snow falling across the Island through the window.

Two runners-up were also selected, and Cllr Dore now plans to visit the winning schools to deliver festive congratulations in person.
He said: “It really was a joyful experience from start to finish. The creativity and effort that went into these cards was simply outstanding. Every single design told its own story of Christmas cheer. I was genuinely blown away by the imagination on display. Narrowing it down was incredibly tough, because they were all top quality, and I’d happily have chosen them all as winners. A huge well done to every child who entered – you should be very proud of what you’ve created.”
