Division One
Havenstreet A 5 v Ryde B 5, Ryde Revellers 1 v Ryde C 9.
Ryde C have extended their lead at the top, after a 9-1 victory over bottom of the table Ryde Revellers, with Steve Mills gaining their only point against Joe Chapman.
Havenstreet A and third-placed Ryde B played a close match, with Ryde’s Alex Rorke unbeaten. Havenstreet’s Roger Hookey met Ryde’s Tim Giles, with Giles pulling level after being two sets down, but ultimately Hookey took the game after an 11-4 win in the final set.
Havenstreet’s Michael Bulpitt won two, and junior player, Jye Loc, won one. Going into the deciding doubles it was 5-4 to Havensteet, and this was a close game with four out of the five sets going to deuce. Ultimately, Ryde won the game and the match ended in a draw.
Division Two
Newport Vics A 10 v Ryde Rising Stars 0, Ryde Retailers 5 v Shorwell Sinners 5, Ryde Rogues 3 v Newport Vics B 7.
Newport Vics are back holding the top two places in Division Two after Vics B crept ahead of Ryde Rising Stars following Ryde’s 10-0 defeat to Vics A. However, the score line did not reflect the closeness of the games involving cadet players, Thane Taylor and Theo Lewis. The boys both took Rob Warren to five sets, and John Cornforth to four sets. The doubles was a five-set struggle, with Taylor and Lewis unlucky not to score a win against Cornforth and team-mate, Barry Joyce.
In a mid-table clash, Ryde Retailers and Shorwell Sinners played a tight match, with Ryde’s Joe Millward winning two. However, Shorwell’s Guy Golbourn was unbeaten. Ultimately, Shorwell took the doubles and the match ended in a draw.
Division Three
Shorwell Saints 7 v Ryde Raiders 3, Shorwell Saviours 7 v Wroxall Legendary Lizards 3, Newport Vics C 7 v Cowes Baptists 3, Wroxall Warriors B 6 v Wroxall Warriors C 4.
Wroxall Warriors B moved back into second place, after a 6-4 win against clubmates Wroxall Warriors C, a good result for the newcomers of the C team who are bottom of the table at present. Newport Vics C are slowly moving up the table, and met Cowes Baptists this week, winning 7-3, although they could not get the better of Cowes’ John Featherstone who was unbeaten.
