The Isle of Wight Monkey Haven has announced the sad death of Bog, their much‑loved siamang, after a battle with cancer.
Bog had been part of the sanctuary’s family for many years, bringing what staff described as “a special kind of magic” to the Haven. Gentle and calm, he was adored by keepers and visitors alike, who often spoke of the way he could melt hearts with a single look.
Throughout his illness, the sanctuary said, Bog showed remarkable courage and strength. His peaceful nature and quiet moments – watching the world from his favourite spots or sharing soft interactions with his keepers – have left treasured memories for the team.
Monkey Haven’s Facebook post said that the sanctuary will not be the same without him, but staff take comfort in believing Bog is now reunited with Xhabu, his lifelong companion, with whom he shared an inseparable bond.
“Sleep tight, beautiful Bog. We will carry you with us always,” the tribute concluded.
