The Bay CE School, by its secondary site, marked its annual Celebration of Excellence on Thursday, July 17, honouring students for their achievements both in and beyond the classroom.
Held in front of parents, carers and staff, the event recognised 135 students from Years 7 to 11. Awards were given for academic performance, student leadership, enrichment, and the school’s core values of kindness, trust, courage and respect.
Peter Hammond, from Sandown & Shanklin Golf Club, gave the keynote speech, encouraging students to aim high and value commitment and resilience. He also presented trophies and scrolls to the award winners.
Several memorial cups were also awarded. The Sam Alabaster Memorial Cup for Endeavour was awarded to Danielle D, in recognition of courage and strength in the face of adversity. The Rachael Stratton Memorial Cup for Performing Arts went to Jaya B, praised for confidence, humility and creativity.
The Paul Thatcher Memorial Cup for History was presented to Katie H.
The Stuart Dove Memorial Cup for Cricket was awarded to Sam B, recognised for sportsmanship and dedication.
Headteacher, Emma Bowden, said: “It was a wonderful opportunity to share so many successes with students, parents and our wider school community. I’m incredibly proud of all the students it was their moment to shine.”
The full range of subject awards spanned over 25 academic and vocational subjects, and special recognition was also given for community citizenship, sporting and performing arts achievements, enterprise, perseverance and leadership across all year groups.
The ceremony highlighted the school’s strong values and community spirit, offering pupils not just recognition but inspiration for the year ahead.
