Battling Brading, buoyant Binstead and brave Bembridge

Binstead COB's Paul Dodd scores at Shanklin

A rare weekend when waterlogging weather wasn’t the talking point saw Brading, Binstead and Bembridge A progressing in Gold, Memorial and Junior B cups respectively. Whitecroft & Barton and Osborne Coburg strengthened their leads at the top of Divisions One and Two, and there were Wessex points for Vics and Newport.

Cups
In the Gold Cup, Brading battled to win 4-0 away at Bembridge, to clinch a place in the quarter finals.

Buoyant Binstead COB overcame Shanklin 5-1 in the Memorial Cup. Their skipper gave Shanklin an early lead, but the Binmen bounced back with two goals from Paul Dodd, and one each from Ryan Marchbank, Jamie Dyer and Harry Taylor. Binstead COB keeper, Tom Reece, capped an outstanding performance with a penalty save. Binstead COB face W&B in the next round.

Bembridge A beat a strong Wootton Res side 4-2 at Steyne Park, with keeper, Charlie Watson, making crucial saves. The visitors scored through Keaton Clinton, before Jarred Brodie was red-carded late in the match.

Island Leagues
In Division One, Ventnor won 5-1 away at East Cowes Sport, with two goals apiece for Robert Gee and Martin Barrow and one from Jack Barsdell, with Harrison Berry getting the consolation goal.

Northwood won 4-0 at home to Vectis, with a 30+ yard James Flux free-kick, Lee McKenzie’s close-in effort, and a Ryzie Gardener shot before the break. Arthur Balchin claimed the deflected fourth goal.

W&B extended their lead at the top of Division Two, with a decisive 10-1 win at home to High Park, with two goals from Ollie Frost, two own goals, and one apiece from Finn Kalaker, Kyle Drew, skipper, Harry Ovnik, Joe Rayner, Sam Yelland, and Sam Cant.

Also in Division Two, a Mark Taylor hat-trick, and one each for Harry Green and Carl Phillipson saw Osborne Coburg win 5-0 at home to Niton.

Newport Res beat Ryde Saints 3-1, with sub Matt Wootton getting the consolation goal. Ash Gulliver, Finn McMahon and sub Owen Brown scored for Newport.

In Combination One, Sandown & Lake won 3-0 at home to Bembridge Res, with first-half goals from Nathan Dicker and Ethan Jones, and a second-half strike from sub Rob Iley.

W&B Res clinched a 4-2 away win at Vectis Res, with first-half goals from Barney Snaith and Robert Taylor, and goals from Tom Stead and Jack Ewbank after the break. Vectis scored through Josh Winter and Jake Toulson.

In Combination Two, two goals each for Stan Harrison and Jay Wallder saw Seaview Res narrowly win 4-3 away at Newchurch Res, who scored through Aiden Reeves, Dave Haynes and Keith Rust.

West Wight were awarded an away win at Ryde Saints Res.

Wessex
In the Premier Division, Cowes lost 4-0 at home to Moneyfields. East Cowes Vics won 4-0 at home to Aldermaston, with a hat-trick from Ji Nash and one from Charlie Marsek, with Newport drawing 2-2 away at Whitchurch, with goals from Jordan Browne and Josh Younie.

Women
Shanklin Ladies won a tough match, 2-0 win against Basingstoke Town Ladies. Grit and determination was shown by Shanklin, who led through a first-half penalty, and a second- half strike both by Gemma Woodford. Grace McDonald was named player-of-the-match. Wight Eagles lost 2-0 away at Farnborough.

Fixtures
On Saturday in the Gold Cup, Shanklin visit Binstead COB, and Brading visit Wootton. Ventnor are at home to Bembridge in the Memorial Cup at 1.30pm. Bembridge A entertain West Wight A in the Junior B cup.

In Division One, High Park are at home to West Wight. In Division Two, Newport Res entertain Newchurch, Osborne Coburg welcome Ryde Saints, and Sandown & Lake are at home to Seaview.

In Combination One, East Cowes Sports Res play Vectis Res, Northwood Res welcome Sandown & Lake Res, Shanklin Res play West Wight Res, W&B Res play Bembridge Res, and Ventnor Res play Binstead COB Res at 3.30pm.

In Combination Two, Newchurch Res play Ventnor Res, and Seaview Res are at home to Wootton Res.

In Wessex, Cowes welcome Andover New Street in the Premier Division, with Newport at home to Romsey and 5th-placed Vics away at 4th-placed Alresford Town.

Shanklin Ladies are at home to United Services Portsmouth on Sunday in Division One, and in Division Three, Wight Eagles welcome Alton.
