Young standard bearer does the Island proud

By Press Release May 12, 2023

The Coronation was a proud moment for Tristan Allen, the standard bearer for the Brighstone & District Branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL).

Tristan, 20, from Ryde, who works at Havenstreet Steam Railway, was selected to join the RBL standard bearers from across the nation, who took posts around Parliament Square at the ceremony.

The branch has now received a message from Peter Pullin, RBL membership engagement officer, who said: “I would like to say how proud the Isle of Wight should be of Tristan, and him representing his branch and county.

“He worked hard, fitted in really well with the other standard bearers and, at one point during the rehearsals on the Tuesday night, Tristan was leading a column of 50 fellow bearers and this did not seem to faze him one bit.

“On the rehearsals, somebody worked out we marched eight miles and stood in position for more than three hours. And of course, on the day itself, we had the rain to deal with. Tristan just got on with it all.”
