Wightlink joins this weekend’s Coastline Clean-Up

Karen Woods, Phil Wyatt and Louise Lea from Wightlink get set to clean the beach near Ryde Pier

As part of this year’s Isle of Wight Day celebrations, a team from Wightlink will be joining the Island’s Coastline Clean-Up, picking up plastics and other waste along Ryde beach tomorrow (Saturday, September 21).

Coinciding with the Marine Conservation Society’s Great British Beach Clean, they will start at Wightlink’s historic pier and work their way eastwards towards Appley to help rid the Island’s beautiful coastline of damaging plastics and rubbish.

Stuart James, Director of Marketing and Innovation at Wightlink, says: “The amount of plastics and other waste washing up along our beautiful coastline is staggering and we must do all we can to help turn this harmful tide. As well as looking unsightly it is causing real damage to our delicate marine eco-systems.”

Wightlink has sponsored the event since its launch in 2016 and will be providing all those who take part in an Isle of Wight Day beach clean with a voucher for discounted ferry travel.
