Touching tribute to musician has been placed in Newport

A touching tribute to a Ventnor man, who enjoyed busking, has been placed in Newport by his friends.

William Clarkson, who died on Christmas Day, was a regular sight with his guitar in various locations around the Island, adding to the soundtrack of everyday life.

A black guitar has been placed on the wall, in Cockram’s Yard, the alleyway that runs between Pyle Street and South Street, where he often played and sang. The tribute is alongside the art installation depicting notable Newport residents from history.

William was also a much-loved member of Ventnor Comic Jazz Band, where he was known affectionately as ‘One Note Will’, but, as fans of his busking knew, he was actually a talented musician who also played the piano.
