The theft of £250 of equipment has led Medina Marching Band to turn to social media in an attempt to find the culpruit. A bag and parade sticks belonging to the Corps of Drums were stolen from beside their vehicle while the popular Island band were performing at St Helen’s carnival on Monday (August 26).
Posting on Facebook they described how the items had been inadvertently left outside the vehicle as they marched through the village and said: “Unfortunately no human being outside our great organisation can be trusted so from now on the van will need to be fully packed up before each gig unless someone stays with it, which means we have to be a little bit quicker getting ready.”
However, there was better news a few days later on Wednesday (August 28) when Vice-Chairman of the Band Kevin Downer, announced that two local companies Beken of Cowes and the Steam Punk Vape Lounge in Newport, had made donations that more than covered the cost of replacing the stolen items.
He thanked the local media and said: “We are so grateful for the kind support we have had from across the Island, other local bands and news coverage. This proves that although something like this has happened there really is still some good in the world, and we can carry on our fundraising efforts to get to London for the Lord Mayor’s Show in November.”
