A suspected outbreak of Norovirus has effected a popular Newport cafe in Newport today (Tuesday 5th June).

Staff at the popular French Franks cafe, in St Thomas’s Square, were taken ill with a vomiting bug over the weekend and have been put on quarantine leave since.

A notice board has been placed outside the cafe warning customers of the risk.

It stated: “So sorry, we had an outbreak of suspected Norovirus over the weekend, affecting staff who worked Friday.

“We have taken all actions we can, closing for a day to deep clean, and all staff affected are on quarantine leave.

“In the meantime, we have drafted a skeleton crew and are offering a limited service until Thursday.”

Mark Horton, Owner of French Franks said the premises has been deep cleaned and he was working with environmental health. The business remains open but is operating with a skeleton crew in place.
