Shanklin secure second success in Christchurch Regatta

Shanklin’s successful Men’s Junior 4 at Christchurch

Island sides competed on the River Stour in the Christchurch Regatta, with Ryde’s Men [Junior Senior] Fours crew, of Ben Sanderson, Charlie Watts, Will Hall and Paddy Kearney, with Mai Read coxing, finishing first in the semi-final and second in the final.

In the Men’s Junior Four race, the Ryde crew of Lars Groothuis, Joe Roberts, Isaac Gibson and Charlie Watt, with Harry Watts, who was nominated as one of the coxes of the day, coxing also won their heat, finishing second in the final. The Women’s Novice Four of Maggie Sanderson, Alexis Owen, Emily Kellerman, and Mai Read, stroke, with Ruby Read coxing, finished first in their heat and runners-up in the final.

The 1200m course also saw success for Shanklin’s Men Junior Four, their second win of the season.

Newport entered three crews, with the Men’s Novice crew reaching the semi-final. The Women’s Masters also reached the semi-final, but lost to Coalporters. The Men’s Junior crew were knocked out in the early stages.

This weekend sees Ryde’s Rowing Regatta, starting tomorrow from 10.30am with Shanklin’s Championship Regatta taking place on Sunday.
