Taking advantage of the beautiful weather, which meant that their greens were in good condition for this stage in the season, Ryde Marina Bowls Club recently played their first serious match of the season. The opponents were the Warwickshire County Ladies who were on the Island for the weekend and brought so many players with them that they asked if the Ryde Club could assemble eight rinks of four players in each rink.
Being the only club on the Island with two greens, this was made possible, with the help of some of their men to make up the numbers.
After 18 ends the result was a win for the tourists by 155 shots to 110 with Ryde winning in only one of the eight games. The match was played in a great spirit and enjoyed by all.
The Club’s Open Day is on Sunday, May 25, 10am-4pm, so go along and give it a try (all equipment provided).
