Rudderless fishing boat towed to East Cowes

A 999 call led to Cowes RNLI lifeboat being launched on Friday afternoon to go to the aid of a 23 foot fishing boat.

The fishing boat had anchored in Thorness Bay after losing its rudder. Despite restricted visibility because of fog it was soon located by the lifeboat, which towed the fishing boat back to its berth in East Cowes.

This was the first ‘shout’ for new lifeboat crew member Libby Finch (pictured on board the fishing boat).

The lifeboat, which launched at 2.10 pm, was away from station for one and a half hours.
