Police officers have secured a partial closure order on a property in Angelica Grove, Newport, as part of a targeted crackdown on anti-social behaviour and drug-related harm, a move expected to significantly improve the quality of life for local residents.

The Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court granted the order on September 23, after being presented with evidence of ongoing drug-related anti-social behaviour and criminal activity at the address. The order, which lasts for three months, bans anyone other than those explicitly named on the court document from entering or remaining at the property.

The order was successfully obtained through collaborative efforts between officers from the West Wight Neighbourhood Police Team (NPT) and Sovereign Housing Association.

Sergeant Chantal Miller, from the Neighbourhood Policing Team, emphasised the police’s commitment: “We’re committed to addressing drug-related harm and the impact this has on neighbours and the wider community. This is a current West Wight NPT priority, raised by the community itself. This order gives us additional powers to arrest anyone who shouldn’t be there, ensuring drug use and dealing are dealt with robustly.”

Following the order, two individuals have already been charged with contravening the closure notice. A 45-year-old man from Mitchell Avenue, Newport, has been bailed to appear at the Magistrates’ Court on October 21. Separately, a 33-year-old man from The Brambles, Sandown, pled guilty to the charge at court on September 24.
