Despite the drizzly and chilly evening, the Newport Illuminated Carnival lit up the town with a brilliant display yesterday (Thursday) night. The event attracted a large crowd of enthusiastic spectators who braved the intermittant rain, creating an incredible atmosphere and a real sense of community spirit.
The carnival procession, which began after an hour-long judging period, featured stunning costumes from the Shademakers that left everyone in awe. Children’s joyous laughter and their waving of light swords, added a magical touch to the evening. One happy attendee remarked, “It was the best illuminated carnival I have ever attended.”

The musical atmosphere was electrifying, thanks to vibrant performances by Raw Samba, Fat Samba, Vectis Corps of Drums, and the Medina Marching Band. Their rhythmic beats reverberated through the streets, keeping the crowd’s spirits high.
A notable highlight was the Young Farmers’ parade, which featured lights intricately woven through their tractor wheels. The event was a resounding success, despite the less-than-ideal weather.
