A New Era for Ryde Marina Bowls Club

For the first time since its new clubhouse was opened in 2006, the Ryde Marina Bowls Club members have taken full responsibility for the maintenance of its two greens.

The designated greens’ team took over the work from the Council contractors at the end of last season achieving surfaces on which members are looking forward to bowl when the greens open for the summer in mid April.

The Club is one of very few to be open to the public 7 hours a day, seven days a week throughout the season – weather permitting! It is staffed principally by its own members but does have a vacancy for a paid part time steward. This position is for an average of 10 hours per week throughout the season. This is to cover 4/5 hours per week cleaning and to assist the volunteers in coping when more than 6 rinks are in play. Some tourist matches can see almost 100 bowlers on the greens!

The Club has an open day on 12th May for prospective members to view the facilities and test their skills on the greens overlooking the harbour. Free introductory weekly courses on Saturday mornings take place throughout the season. Bowls and shoes are made available.

If you would like further details, either as a prospective member or part time steward, please send your details to the Club or make contact via the website Ryde Marina Bowls Club.
