Man bailed after alleged attempt to take a child

A 61-year-old man, arrested on suspicion of attempting to take a child so as to remove them from a person having lawful control, has been bailed until December 27, while a police investigation is ongoing.

At around 8.30am last Friday (September 27), police were alerted to reports of an incident on School Green Road/Avenue Road, Freshwater.

The man, it is claimed, approached another man, walking with his three-year-old daughter, and asked the girl if she wanted to “go with him to get some sweets”.

A police spokesman confirmed: “We know this incident, and incidents of this nature can cause alarm to the local community.

“Officers have been conducting patrols in the Freshwater area following this incident, and will continue to do so.

“We encourage anyone with concerns, or who has experienced this type of behaviour, to contact police on 101.”
