A 10-year-old Lake schoolgirl is having her ‘first major hair chop’ to raise money for Breast Cancer Now and The Little Princess Trust, a charity which provides free real hair wigs to children who have lost their own hair due to cancer treatment or alopecia.

Maizie Debenham, who attends Broadlea Primary School, said: “I wanted to do some fund-raising, and my idea is to have my very, very long hair cut off and sent to children who need wigs as they are affected by cancer. My hair is 18 inches long, so there’s a lot!”

Sarah Tyrell, community fund-raiser for Breast Cancer Now, has set up a JustGiving page for Maizie, adding: “It’s her first major chop and Maizie is super-excited about the haircut and also pleased that two charities are going to benefit.

“Her haircut is Saturday, January 20, and takes place at Wallis 25 Hair Studio in Sandown High Street.

“Owner Julie Wallis is providing her services for free and all are welcome to come and watch.”
