Three weeks after the IW Observer revealed that the IW Council’s secretive Transport Infrastructure Board was operating without any proper rules, terms of reference, or oversight – the body has now been disbanded.
As previously reported, a series of Freedom Information Act requests revealed the board had no defined role or reporting structure. We were finally told that it was due to agree new terms of reference at its meeting on Monday, but the body was dissolved instead.
Council leader, Phil Jordan, said: “The Transport Infrastructure Board has just held its last meeting in its current form.
“I want to thank the board for all of their hard work over many years and for the improvements delivered out into our community. In an ever-changing world, we must adapt and develop to meet increasing demands. The council will be moving forward with a revised approach to bring transport operators and users together in a Transport Forum. The detail is being prepared and will be announced in due course.”
Last week the Island’s two MPs also announced that they would be setting up a new board to help find a way forward to solve ferry issues. They have appointed former Trade Union leader, Sir Paul Kenny, to act as its chairman.
Sir Paul Kenny has contributed a Vectis View this week – read it on page 25.
