The Island could be named the UK’s best destination for group travel for the second year in a row, after claiming the accolade in 2023.
The prestigious Group Leisure & Travel Awards 2024 sees the Isle of Wight aim to retain the title with voting now open. The Island is pitted against other UK destinations including Leicester and Leicestershire, London, Norwich, Wiltshire and York.
The Isle of Wight was shortlisted in the category of Best UK Destination by readers of the Group Leisure and Travel magazine, regarded as the industry bible for people who organise group trips and holidays.
Voting in the category will see Group Leisure & Travel readers choose the overall winner in the category from the shortlist of finalists.
Amy Summers of Visit Isle of Wight said: “It’s great to see that we’ve been shortlisted again for UK’s best destination in these awards.
“Our businesses work so hard, and it’s fantastic to see that they are being recognised and rewarded for the excellent experience and service they are providing to groups.
“Travel trade and groups are vital for the Island’s visitor economy and my continued thanks to the exhibition partnership members, who continue to support this vital sector and showcase the Island as the place for group travel.”
Many Islanders will be somewhat taken aback to note that Wightlink is shortlisted for the Best Ferry or Fixed Link operator – it would seem unlikely that many Islanders would think them deserving of the accolade based on recent performance.
Voting closes on April 21 and the results will be announced on June 27. If you organise group trips you can find the voting form at iw.observer/travelawards.
