Islanders to pay for than £100 a year extra on average for services

Isle of Wight residents will pay more than £100 a year extra on average for fire, police and council services.

Overall, tax bills will rise by 4.8 per cent compared to last year for the combined services of the Isle of Wight Council, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Authority and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police and Crime Commissioner.

It comes as both the council and fire service approved their budgets for 2024/25 earlier this week.

The charges will come into force from April.

A Band D taxpayer last year paid £2,149.50 combined for the three services but will now pay £2,252.60.

Residents will also be charged depending on how much their local town, parish and community council is asking for.

The final precept amounts have yet to be finalised for all 33 smaller councils but last year ranged from an additional £18.48 to £218.43.
