Island VI Form students collaborate with local business

Flower Garden, run by Jayne Roberts and her team of experienced florists, recently set the Fashion & Textiles students at The Island VI Form the challenge of working to a set design brief to create a beautiful spring display in their Newport shop.

The students, Chloe Brinsford, Chiarra Green, Katie Byrne & Caitlin Cheer were all inspired by the botanical theme. They were required to create a sketchbook of ideas, demonstrate development and produce textile experiments that led to a final piece, chosen by Jayne at Flower Garden.

All of the pieces were individually designed and made by hand by the students, who spent many hours of their own time in order to realise outcomes that blend well to become the final display. The display was launched on Friday 17th January at an event for friends and families. The students’ final pieces will remain on display until mid-February.

Karen Harverson and Hannah Woodford, Teachers at The Island VI Form, said “We would like to express our special thanks to the Flower Garden for giving up their time to work with our students and hosting this amazing display, it has been a wonderful opportunity all around!”

The Island VI Form welcomes opportunities for local businesses to collaborate on projects with students and appreciates business people sharing their expertise and providing such valuable experiences. Please contact the VI Form Campus if you have an idea for a future project.
