By Press Release May 29, 2024

Wild Wax Melts from Carisbrooke College and Medina College go marching on into the National final of the Young Enterprise Company Programme, and in doing so have become the first Isle of Wight team to reach the final stage of this national competition.

The team picked up both the Best Company award and the Digital Skills award, at the South East Regional Final held at Samsung HQ in London.

The Young Enterprise Company Programme is a national competition involving more than 600 schools and colleges across the UK, where student teams launch and develop real trading businesses.

Each team is supported by a business advisor. Wild Wax Melts are supported by Tracy Osborn, Director of Fundraising and Operations at Quarr Abbey, Ryde. Tracy said: “The Wild Wax Melts team are such an inspiration. Their hard work, commitment, passion, and ideas show what Island young people can achieve.”

Ed-WISE, a charitable benefit society based on the Island to improve education and life chances for young people, organise the competition on the Island.

CEO, David Thornton commented on how the competition helps students: “This year we have seen 12 Island teams progress in the Young Enterprise Company Programme competition. As the teams have to present to judging panels, compete for Dragons Den funding and sell to the public, it is great to see how their skills develop over the months.”

The National final of the Young Enterprise Company Programme takes place on Thursday, June 6.
