Island daredevils raise £25,000 for Wessex Cancer Support

Forty-six brave Islanders have raised £25,000 to support local people affected by cancer, by taking part in either a 10,000ft skydive or a 160ft bungee jump challenge at Sandown Airport, organised by Wessex Cancer Support.

Fifteen-year-old Louie Wakefield was the first person to brave the jump in memory of his brother Jack, and said: “It was incredible to remember my brother, have fun and raise money at the same time.”

Laura Haytack, Wessex Cancer Support’s regional fund-raising manager, said: “These are exhilarating challenges, and we’re so grateful to our participants who stepped out of their comfort zone to take part. Together, they’ve raised much-needed funds to help us continue to provide free, local and personalised support to anyone on the Island. It was wonderful to see everyone back on safe land with a smile on their faces!

“A huge thank you also to IOW Skydive, UK Bungee Club, and Sandown Airport, who made the events possible.”
