Dapper chaps seen out on their bikes

A ‘posh’ group of around 70 motorcyclists took part in the annual ’Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride’ from Carisbrooke on Sunday.

The dapper men, and some ladies, dressed up as part of a worldwide ride-out in support of the Movember Movement, which promotes men’s mental health and raises awareness for Prostate Cancer.

The Island event was organised by Mike Upstell and Paul Starkey, of Bert’s Motorcycles, Ryde. They said: “We met up outside Death Death Motorcycles in Carisbrooke, where refreshments were provided and, from there, we went to Sandown Esplanade, where we were able to regroup.

After that, we went through Bembridge and Brading and back to Bert’s, where Monckton Arts organised more refreshments.

“It’s a worldwide event to promote awareness of Prostate Cancer, and to persuade men they need to get checked out, but we hate talking about things like that.

“We were all very dapper and rode out on classic and vintage-style bikes, mainly Triumphs, who sponsor the event. We have raised around £7,000 from a small group who pay to register and then organise our own sponsorship, so it was all well worth it and a lovely day for a ride-out as well.”
